Ways to Build Muscle Effectively Without a Gym

There are many ways to build muscle effectively. The methods you choose are largely a matter of choice, convenience and availability. Maybe you aren't near a gym and have to come up with solutions that don't involve that convenience. Perhaps money is tight, and a gym membership isn't possible right now. Maybe you are just not comfortable with the whole gym scene. That is a legitimate reason. However, the good news is that there are many ways you can get a good workout in and build muscle without having to travel to a gym. Let's look at some of the ways.

1. Build your own gym! - Many people who have the resources opt to create their own workout facility, not only so they won't have to travel to a gym, but also to be able to workout in the privacy and convenience of their own home. This can involve having workout machines, free weights, kettle bells, treadmills, ellipticals or whatever combination of workout gear you feel will benefit you. This can be a great option, as nothing can beat the convenience, and it's not easy to escape your commitment to work out: it's sitting in that room over there, and you paid X amount of dollars to get it there!

2. Develop and follow an isometric workout routine! – This one doesn't involve the use of weights, but resistance. You can get quite a good workout using bands, gravity and natural objects along with specific exercises without having to lug around 50 pound weight plates. In many ways it is safer, as you don't have the injury piece that is always present when working with weights. It can also work you in a greater range of motion then conventional weight lifting machines or even free weight exercises.

3. Using old standbys such as pushups, pull-ups, squats, bench dips, stair running, crunches, scissor kicks and dips. The list is long of these traditional exercises, and given a little imagination and a regular routine, you can achieve good things!

4. Sports like martial arts, boxing, gymnastics and fencing are some activities that can deliver up a good muscle build, though you need to be careful to balance the workload on each specific muscle group.

As you can see, there are many options for building muscle that don't require a gym. My favorite way to incorporate this into a total body workout designed to deliver a classic male form is found in the book “The Adonis Index”, where you are presented with a detailed plan to take an undefined form to the classic “V” shape physique. Combining a workout with a sensible diet plan you can live with and not abandon in a few weeks does this. Do yourself a favor and give it a look!
