What is the flu?
Flu is a common ailment that all of us suffer from. Influenza, commonly shortened to "flu," is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza A or B viruses. The flu virus attacks the body by spreading through the upper and/or lower respiratory tract.
It is a fact that a huge battalion of viruses are responsible for cold and flu. Flu, also known as influenza is a contagious infection of the nose, throat and lungs caused by influenza virus. Flu is generally accompanied by common cold, the causes for which can be environmental changes or allergies
. Flu and common cold drain out energy from the patient's body and makes the person vulnerable.
During the long winter months it is not unusual to catch the common cold. This can be cause by exposing yourself to the cold weather or someone sick; it is usually a person with the flu themselves. Although, most of us are familiar with the flu and expect it to wear out within a couple of days, it can still cause a great amount of distress.
One of the better known herbal flu remedies is echinacea. There have been numerous clinical studies showing that echinacea stimulates the immune system and is effective in the treatment of influenza. One study in Volgograd showed that echinacea, not only contributed to quicker recovery, but also reduced the risk of post-flu complications.
