Children downing Zoloft for ADHD? Are you kidding me?
In my former psychotherapeutic practice practice, we used to give Zoloft for adults with fairly dangerous psychiatric difficulties. But now we are giving this dangerous stuff to young kids& adolescents.
When you're finished perusing this article, you'll realise why Zoloft may not be the superior choice for "curing" ADHD.
Ok, I'll admit, though it is not a commonly sanctioned treatment for ADHD, Zoloft has been known to aid in decreasing of symptoms of ADHD in some people. Zoloft for ADHD is often given in addition to stimulants such as Ritalin and Adderall.
The grounds for why Zoloft and stimulants are used in a mixture is because many people who suffer from ADHD also have problems with other disturbances such as depression, OCD, nervousness and others. Zoloft may also be helpful in treating the hyper-focused case of ADHD versus the unfocused type.
The central problem with offering Zoloft for ADHD treatment is its grave side effects when consumed alone and in combination with other drugs.
Possible side effects of Zoloft include anxiety, panic, irritability, hostility, insomnia, impulsivity, and mania.
In addition to psychiatric side effects, Zoloft can also result in tangible symptoms such as muscle tissue spasms, flu-like symptoms, problems with speech, severe skin rash, jaundice, cardiac palpitations, and hazy vision.
Taking Zoloft for ADHD treatment poses the most dangers when used in combination with other drugs. For example, taking Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOs) even two weeks before consuming Zoloft can be life-threatening.
Life-threatening side effects can also occur if a patient switches from Zoloft to another serotonin selective reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) drug.
One of the more debatable aspects of children and adolescents Zoloft and ADHD treatments is the aggression, homicidal conduct and suicidal thoughts that may follow. This has resulted in plenty of lawsuits against Pfizer, the company that makes Zoloft.
There have been numerous stories in the media about adults and children who have committed or attempted to commit homicide after consuming SSRI drugs like Zoloft.
In fact, the two adolescents who murdered their schoolmates and then themselves during the Columbine tragedy were consuming SSRI drugs.
Finally, like most extremely powerful prescriptive medication, studies which help determine danger are all short-term. There are no studies on the effects of Zoloft on ADHD when used for a 10 years or more. Such studies are too impractical and expensive.
And, yet, knowing what we now know about how the seeds of many adult disorders are deeply-rooted in childhood, do you gainsay that consuming very powerful ADHD prescriptive drugs can very possibly result in grave disturbances in adulthood? I don't.
So don't go throwing the stimulants & Zoloft out of the window. Using natural alternatives for ADHD requires planning and qualified medical professional help.
But do consider alternate, safer treatments to strong prescription medications.
