A new study comes just in time for the cold and flu season. Study finds exercise keeps infectious respiratory diseases including colds at bay.
Simply put, exercising offers systemic benefits so why would it surprise us that research points to exercising helping us ward off seasonal infections?
Exercise researcher and my guru, Covert Bailey, once said that if we could manufacture a pill that conferred the benefits of exercise it would be the most revolutionary medical discovery of the century.
Many other prescription drugs would become obsolete, we would all live long high quality lives. So, just do it.
* Great herbal remedy for relaxation, wine
Just a glass (4 ounces) before bed really does take the edge off.
This may not be news to many of you but note, don’t drink that second glass or relaxing effects of first glass get reversed and sleep quality diminishes.
Add other beneficial health effects, especially for red wine, like the high antioxidants that prevent cancer and reverse & prevent heart disease, and you’ll have to agree that a glass of wine is a super herbal remedy and a perfect night cap.

* Eat fish or take fish oil supplements
Some of the research on fish oil supplements is conflicting. A lot depends on the type of supplement you take. For example, salmon vs. krill oil.
But there’s one benefit that fish oil has consistently been shown to lend us that makes it a powerhouse supplement. It reduces the chance of heart attack for all takers including for “healthy” people.
Oh and eating good healthy fish is better yet. So go have ½ can of tuna or a few ounces of salmon or sardines. On those days, just skip the supplements.
* Water contamination problem in California
If you live in California, specifically the San Bernadino area, you are certainly aware of the recent water problems there.
Briefly the town’s water was found to be contaminated with perchlorate, a toxic chemical used in explosives and rocket fuel.
But the problem of perchlorate in the water is even more widespread being detected in 35 states.
The basic problem is that industrialization proceeds onward worldwide leading to spillover into our environment. This march only speeds up as other nations industrialize further.
The problem of contaminated water and water quality will soon become a political issue at some point in the future. Meantime, be sure you know the quality of the water you use and consider using filters to assure better water quality.

We reminded you of what Newton accomplished in just a year. And he was ill.
Hopefully 2010 was a productive one for you. I lost about 30 pounds, improved my cardiovascular conditioning and strength. I also worked on the Healthy World websites and making plans to develop a radio show, details coming soon.
What did you do? Let us know.
Whatever you did or didn’t do, don’t stop or give up now. Better yourself. Better your loved ones. Better your community.
Outline some goals. Turn ‘em into resolutions. Then do it.
In a year, you’ll look back and say, ‘with all the ups and downs, I still did’ this and that. Then you can take a deep, satisfied breath before you forge ahead.
See you next year and feel free to contact Healthy World if you have questions, concerns, advice.
